Adoptable Mini Schnauzer: Herbie
Herbie is a 1 year old male neutered mini schnauzer who came to SROMN in January 2019 after his owner abandoned him at his groomer. His owner stated they did not have time for him. Herbie was left alone for upwards of 18 hours a day. There were times when Herbie would be terrorized by the children in the home.
Herbie is an extremely sweet, loving boy! He needs lots of direction in his life, and will require obedience training! Herbie LOVES adults! But he cannot be placed with children. Herbie will not do well in a home that plans on having children in the future or currently has children under 16 years old. He has too much previous trauma to be around children.
Herbie is extremely athletic, weighing in at 13 lbs at 13.5 inches tall. He jumps from sofa to sofa! Bounds through the snow! He truly loves life and just wants to be the center of someones world!
Herbie LOVES playing, and would benefit from a play partner, however he would be great as a solo dog if his family spent lots of time exercising him through training classes, sports like agility, and lots of walks and fetch!
Herbie is super smart, and is catching on very quickly to training! He has learned how to sit, down, 'go rug', shake, and leave it. He is motivated and wants you to be happy!
Herbie did not have any structure for his first year of life, therefore he struggles with boundaries and knowing what is right and wrong. Herbie is very use to saying 'No I don' t like that' by growling and sometimes biting. He tends to warn when he doesn't like something, and respond well to positive reinforcement training.
Ideally, Herbie should have a fenced yard. This will help with his exercise needs.
Herbie will require a former schnauzer or terrier owner. He is extremely smart and likes to test his boundaries.
